Hikari® RC model paints include a series of water-based pearlescent and metallic colors for decorating radio-controlled vehicles.

These RC paints are specially tested and designed for application over Lexan® hulls, the polycarbonate commonly used in RC model making.

They provide excellent adhesion and flexibility, so there is no risk of delamination when racing, or even when applying the paints and removing the adhesive masks.

The Scarabeus range is composed of pearl Lexan paints with color change effect.

1 - Adhesion on Lexan®

Hikari RC Scarabeus paints have a unique formula that has been specially designed and tested for the extreme conditions that radio-controlled devices undergo during racing. With conventional airbrush paints, it is difficult to obtain a guarantee of adhesion, or even a good level of adhesion on Lexan®.
Hikari RC paints are very adhesive on this type of plastic and avoid all risks of removal.

2 - Optical color change effect

The color variations occur according to the viewer's point of view : the color changes consist of four different colors.

These special paints are semi-transparent or transparent : Their final color can only be seen when the paint is covered with an opaque background (black).

4 tips for achieving the best results with HRC color-changing effects:

Always apply very thin coats. Painting with a few light dustings of paint allows for optimal placement of the pearlescent effects and avoids any risk of dripping or marbling.

Use a hairdryer for a few seconds between each coat: this improves cohesion between layers, adhesion, and, of course, also the speed of evaporation. This is highly recommended in cold and humid weather.

Scarabeus paints must be covered with a black basecoat as they are semi-transparent and require a black, opaque HRC001 basecoat to fully reveal their colors. Other colors can be used for variations.
